Job Description

Mary Seacole Housing Association Limited (the ‘Association’) provides accommodation within a structured and supportive environment for single homeless people between the ages of 16 – 65. The Association provides accommodation, along with support to encourage clients to develop independent skills, take up training, and learn life and social skills through day-time activities that will enable them to live independently when they leave the supported environment.

Purpose of the post

We are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate Advice & Outreach Worker to join our dynamic team and make a meaningful impact.

As an Advice & Outreach Worker, you will actively engage with the community and at-risk youth, offering support, resources, and guidance. You will collaborate closely with a diverse group of individuals, ensuring all services are delivered with cultural competency and sensitivity. Flexibility in working hours is essential to effectively meet the needs of our community.

As an Advice & Outreach Worker, our primary aim is to establish meaningful connections with our clients, their families, and the community. We focus on understanding individual needs and then meticulously matching those needs with the array of services and benefits available to them. Our commitment lies in offering free, impartial, and confidential advice, ensuring they receive the support required to enhance their quality of life. We operate on the principles of providing high-quality, independent information and advice, aiming to empower our clients to effectively address their challenges and prevent them from escalating. Key responsibilities

Play a multifaceted role in supporting young people, families, and communities. Coordinate group discussions and activities, enhance relationships or mediation with statutory service programs, and build rapport to provide a point of contact before or during a crisis. This role is integral to the Mary Seacole Housing Association’s (MSHA) community initiatives.

Responsibilities extend to working directly with clients, families, and the community in various settings, including homes, schools, and group environments. A key aspect of this role involves offering vital emotional support throughout this process. Additionally, you would actively facilitate the identification and connection of clients with suitable support groups and activities tailored to their individual needs, ensuring they receive comprehensive assistance in their journey towards empowerment and integration within the community.

Play a crucial role in fostering community engagement and development, with a primary focus on working with young people and their families. This position involves developing and planning programs, organising and attending workshops, participating in community events, and directly engaging with young people, families, and communities. The Advice & Outreach Worker is responsible for effectively implementing evaluating their impact to ensure alignment with organizational goals and community needs.

Role Dimensions

Contract length: 24 months fixed term

39 hours per week (Mon – Fri) – 16 hours can be worked flexibly to meet resident needs between 8 am to 7 pm with some occasional evening and weekend work.

Must hold a full UK licence and access to your own vehicle

The ideal candidate will have

  • Experience of working with group of people effected by multiple disadvantages.
  • Delivering trauma-based approaches (qualifications required)
  • Experience in Delivering community outreach which includes advice, guidance and advocacy
  • Experience of Working with Young people
  • Level 3 qualification heath and social care or Youth worker qualification
  • Good understanding of social housing issues
