Pay: £26,867.70 per year

Working Days: Monday to Friday (9am to 5pm)

Job Description

Mary Seacole Housing Association Limited (the ‘Association’) provides accommodation within a structured and supportive environment for single homeless people between the ages of 16 – 65 in Luton, Bedfordshire.

We have an opportunity for a Maintenance Officer to join our team who will be responsible for the maintenance and, where applicable, gardens of accommodation projects and offices.

Purpose of post:

  • To promote health and safety within all properties
  • General maintenance of Mary Seacole Housing Association properties, including decorating and gardening; ensuring the work is carried out in line with Mary Seacole Housing Association’s Health and Safety Policy and current legislation.
  • Liaising with the Facilities Manager and Service Managers on aspects relating to hostel maintenance.
  • Inspect all maintenance needs and perform all maintenance.
  • Undertaking a schedule of cyclical maintenance and gardening where necessary.
  • Providing feedback on the status of maintenance related tasks through our management system.
  • Promoting health and safety with hostel staff, external contractors, ensuring copies of contractors’ Statement of Health and Safety Policy are obtained.
  • Have technical skills and knowledge of various crafts such as carpentry, plumbing etc.
  • Act as a mentor to young residents involved, supervise, and provide them with training on the job.
  • Have a track record of helping people enhance their strengths and improve their trade skills.
  • Be able to discover people’s strengths and weaknesses and work with them to improve in order to consider further employment opportunities within the field of premises maintenance.

This appointment provides us with a Maintenance Officer who will take the lead in ensuring the fabric of buildings and gardens is maintained to the highest standard and providing updates to the Quality Assurance Manager.

  • working with local contractors: 2 years (required)
  • working within a residential environment: 2 years (required)
  • Health & Safety: 2 years (required)
  • Mentoring / Supervisory: 2 years (required)

Licence/Certification:

  • Full driving license and access to own vehicle (required)
