This month has been a very eventful month for the Let’s Not forget Project, the Heritage Project Manager has been working alongside the media company, media assistant and the residents at Mary Seacole Housing Association on the planning of workshops, planning of heritage trips and the planning of capturing information for the documentary over the next 12 months.

We have held our first workshop for this project and managed to kick the project of with a fun unique herbal remedy workshop. The target group for this workshop was the residents that reside at Mary Seacole Housing Association. This workshop was designed to teach the residents about the history of the Mary Seacole and allow then to learn about some of the herbal medicine that she used when helping people within her life. Residents looked at some of the remedies that Mary Seacole would make and what these medicines were used to treat. They looked at the history of medicine and how it has evolved over the years.

The herbal remedies that the residents made were to boost immune systems and support with the healing of small cuts or burns, as we all know over the winter months viral infections are more common and are a lot easier to fight if we have a healthy lifestyle and the correct vitamins. The Mary Seacole residents researched the different fruit and vegetables they could use and what vitamins they contain, they then created there lists of ingredients that was needed and sourced products.  

The following session they prepared all their ingredients and started to make their remedies. They made drinks that contained vitamins that are needed to help fight the common flu and cold, and drinks that will help sooth and rehydrate you when fighting a stomach bug and also used fresh aloe vera leafs to create a pot of aloe vera to support with the healing of small cuts or burns.
