August ’23 – Heritage Project

Heritage Day Out

At Mary Seacole Housing Association, we embraced the Summertime and took time out for a Heritage Day out where we visited the Cutty Sark, The Mary Seacole Statue and then we indulged in a nice meal before returning home.

The Cutty Sark is significant to the Mary Seacole Heritage journey as it was built and used in the same era that Mary Seacole was alive! It was great learning about a boat during this same time to see how tea was imported from China.

The Mary Seacole statue is important to us as it commemorates her efforts and contribution to the England and the Crimean War. We follow Mary Seacole’s Ethos when it comes to helping others and she shares the same Jamaican Heritage as our matriarch Desline Stewart MBE, which is why she is the inspiration for the Mary Seacole Housing Association.

We then visited the Happy Restaurant where we all had an amazing meal together to end the day on high note before retuning back to HQ.
