October ’22 – Heritage Project

Heritage Naming Event

The month of October was an extremely busy month at Mary Seacole Housing Association. Staff and residents spent time arranging a naming event. This event was set up to rename one of the Mary Seacole Housing Association’s houses, in order to share and record the heritage of Mrs. Desline Stewart MBE. Residents were fully involved in all areas of the planning and organising of this event. They designed a plaque that would be placed outside the house, sent out invitations for the event, arranged all of the refreshments, designed a cake to be ordered for the celebration and wrote the agenda for the day.

Mrs. Desline Stewart MBE came along to this event. She renamed the house and then did a presentation to share some of her heritage and the organisation’s heritage. People who attended the event had the opportunity to meet Desline Stewart and hear about her accomplishments and the shared ethos that she had with Mary Seacole and they then had the opportunity to ask questions.

This event also gave us the opportunity to capture some footage for our Heritage Let’s Not Forget documentary and film some interviews.

Overall feedback from this event was very good, participants outlined that they had felt like they had learned a lot of new information and that they have really started to understand the growth or the organisation and what our organisation’s values are.
